Our Young Organist Competitors

Michael LeGrand and Chase Loomer

On Saturday, March 21, 2015, the Sarasota-Manatee Chapter of the American Guild of Organists held its Young Organists Competition. There were two competitors. They were Michael LeGrand and Chase Loomer.

The competition began promptly at 1:15 P.M. with Michael LeGrand taking the first turn. Chase Loomer started his program at around 2:00 PM.  Both performers played outstandingly with Chase Loomer garnering

the first prize.

There was one set piece that was required of both players and both performances of Variations on an American Tune by Wadsworth were pulled off with great aplomb.  Both performers also played the Great Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542 by Bach.

This was an enjoyable event, and it gladdens this writers' heart to know that there are some really outstanding young organists up and coming for the future. Our Dean Neil Page awarded the prizes at the end of the Competition, $400.00 for First Place - the Davis prize, and $200.00 for 2nd place. Our special thanks to our judges and Mrs. Davis for helping to make this Chapter event possible.
